Quest #31 The Bridge (Force of Nature, Tier 2) - Forced to wait a while for the next batch of girls to come, Rance takes a walk across the bridge. (It is best to wait until Misty Step activates to make it so he doesn't fall) He comes across a little girl who is weeping, and he offers to trade a gift for his Shardblade. He explains why he's with the Stormblessed (he was one) and she agrees, and the two get to know each other. This is a good opportunity to show how much Rance has grown since the beginning of the novel. The girl is named Eris, and she, too, is grieving over some tragedy, but she explains her problem. When she was a child, her father was killed in a storm and her mother was taken away. Then her aunt and uncle were killed by an assassin, and now her family is gone. She has nobody, except for Rance. She is a ward of the king and he can't keep her with him. He can't send her off to fosterage, as he's personally responsible for her. All of this emotional stuff makes her nice to talk to and Rance decides to take her to the Stormfather's tower to see what he can do. He takes her to the edges of the bridge, and she is shocked to see how far the opposite shore is. Rance then explains that the bridge can't be repaired in a day, but he can make it so they can cross the rift safely. She agrees to do it.
Rance does it. By using his Shardblade, he makes the bridge disappear. He then has her walk across, but it is like she is walking over water. He explains that she no longer has the strength of stone to walk on the bridge. She cries, he comforts her, they talk some more. She even gets jealous of his Shardblade and asks if he's stolen it from his family to give it to her. Rance admits to having done it, but he says that it's for a bigger girl. He says that Eris is the biggest girl he's ever encountered, but then he remembers he's not talking about girls. He says he's talking about the Stormfather. Eris smiles, they share a kiss, and she gets intimate with him.
This quest is pretty hard, so you may want to have a few people with you. If you are having trouble, talk to Dalinar in the kandra channels to get a hand. This quest should be attempted with a group of three or more.
